Munich, the capital of Bavaria, is a very important city both commercially and culturally within Germany. It has the strongest economy of any German city and is home to major international companies such as BMW, Allianz and Siemens. The airport is the country’s second largest and is a gateway not just to the city, but to the whole of Southern Germany and the Alps. In terms of attractions the city has a stunning Gothic centre, the English Garden – one of the most beautiful city gardens in Europe, and nearby palaces such as Schloss Nymphenburg, an extraordinary Baroque palace that hosts regular classical music concerts.
